Since time immemorial, the teenage years have not only represented a challenge to teenagers themselves, but to parents too. The current generation of teens, however, has grown up in a world that is so far removed from anything seen previously that parents can often feel at a loss in terms of how to inspire teens. Here are a few tips to help you keep your teenagers encouraged and motivated:
- The things that excited you in your teenage years are likely to make your own adolescent’s eyes glaze over. Really listen to what your teens get excited about nowadays, and then help them to turn their passions into realistic goals.
- There is a great big world out there just waiting to knock the confidence and self-esteem out of your youngsters. Instead of being part of this world, believe in your teens and help them to believe in themselves. Instill in them the confidence to dream and try new things.
- No teenager has ever liked being told what to do, but today’s teens, perhaps more than any previous generation, need to feel empowered. Let them take a hand in steering their own course by allowing them to make some of their own decisions.
- Today’s teens need everything that they do to feel meaningful. Help them to understand their values and what is important to them.
- Modern teens are creative and innovative. Help yours to find their creative direction.
