Got Patience – Yet?

Waiting for patience is tough. The more I want it, the longer it takes. Baseball players wait for the right pitch. Quarterbacks wait for their man to get open. Successful golf pros win because they wait for the right opportunity to press for a birdie. Patience is also required when you want to teach your family (or friends) to play golf.

Trying to teach your child (or spouse) how to properly grip the club or shift their weight when they’re not ready can be like pushing a rope up a hill. “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” But, what do you do while you wait? Why not learn how to teach the game?

One book that might help is The First Tee Shot: A Parent’s Guide to Teaching Kids by Wally Armstrong, PGA Master Professional and author. Wally suggests that once your students are ready that you begin with the FUN-damentals, set realistic goals, ensure that each golf event is fun (even if it means stopping at the fourth hole), and celebrate each success along the way. Your patience will pay off – eventually!!
