Perseverance, another one of our company values, is sometimes the hardest to keep, but it is often the most rewarding.
Countless stories have been told through the ages about people facing formidable odds who persevered and emerged stronger on the other side. Many cancer patients live to tell their story years later about their struggles in dealing with radiation, chemo therapy, surgery, hospital stays, and many other elements of their battle with cancer.
Twenty five years ago I was diagnosed with cancer and fought it over a period of two years. One night well into the battle as I lay in my hospital bed, I asked my physician if there ever came a point when he gave up on a patient. He said, “As long as my patient is willing to fight, so am I.”
Now many years later, I often look at a plaque hanging in my office with a well known quote from Winston Churchill (below).
“Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never~, in nothing great or small, large or petty~, never give in . . .”
When circumstances seem their worst, press on. When the situation appears hopeless, don’t despair. When all seems lost, find a path or make one.
