We lost a “Y” last week. After all the wind our portable sign said “PLA -A-ROUND GOLF”. Well, that got me to thinking “Y”? I know it’s a corny play on words, but it made me wonder why people enjoy coming in to practice. So, I asked several guests and listed ten of their responses below.
- Great exercise. The way some golfers swing, a half-hour hitting balls expends way more energy than spending an hour bench pressing their weight.
- More relaxed. Worry less about pending rounds with the boss, customer, or friends.
- Better anger management. Transfer all your difficulties from work and life into a little round object and then send it into next week. Lot better than DeNiro’s method of anger management.
- Faster start next Spring. Get ahead of the pack with a fast start and don’t look back. Shoot, some of you will just want to be able to out drive your son or daughter next spring.
- Lose fewer Pro V1’s. Okay, the goal for a few of you might be to play an entire hole with one of the six balls you just found on the last hole.
- Score better. Get invited to play more member-guest tournaments. Fill in for the boss in rounds with your company’s top customers and not the bottom customers.
- Drive farther. Maybe drive a few greens (or hit into more foursomes, “Opps, I mean FORE”) next summer.
- Get to know others in your foursome. Enjoy trash-talking your opponent’s new clubs from Wal-Mart, last shank into the golf cart, or anything about your opponent.
- Hear “You have the Honors” more often! Hitting fewer times allows you to enjoy the scenery.
- Have more fun!
